A balanced and healthy diet can help fight cellulite. Find out which foods should not be missing from the table and which you should avoid to prevent the appearance or worsening of the orange peel effect.
Getting rid of cellulite once and for all isn't easy. But if there are factors that are not easily controlled (such as hormonal fluctuations), others, such as diet and exercise, are in our hands. Teresa Branco, a weight management physiologist, explained to Revista Prevenir which foods you really should avoid and which you should favor when it comes to fighting cellulite. Take a look at the image gallery below.
White rice
It contains a very high sugar content which is directly linked to an increase in fat mass. Prefer brown rice, which is rich in fiber and helps the body metabolize sugar.
Cereals without fiber
The presence of fiber in cereals is essential because it reduces the impact of sugar on the body. Opt for whole grains such as oats or rye, ideally without added sugar, and try adding dried fruit.
Cookies and toast
They contain fast-absorbing sugars and, in some cases, processed fats that increase the fat mass index and encourage the formation of cellulite.
Sausages and hamburgers
These are highly processed meats rich in poor quality fats that increase the production of fat cells and, consequently, cellulite.
Soft drinks
They contain carbonic acid, responsible for the formation of carbonate ions, a strong acid that favors the hardening of protein fibers (collagen and elastic), promoting fluid retention and the formation of cellulite.
Pineapple
On the contrary, this is one of the foods you should prioritize to fight cellulite. As well as being low in sugar, it contains an anti-inflammatory substance (bromelain) which inhibits the process of cellulite formation.
Avocado
It is a fruit very rich in healthy fats that help to counteract the inflammatory process associated with cellulite.
Eggplant
In general, all vegetables have a draining effect. But eggplant seems to have a special anti-inflammatory action that helps fight cellulite.
Coffee and green tea
Both contain caffeine, which increases lymphatic drainage and reduces fluid retention.
Oily fish
This is the case with salmon, herring, mackerel and sardines. They are rich in omega-3, which also helps fight inflammation and, consequently, cellulite.
